Hi

Shyam

Speech By Abdul Kalam

I have thought many times why we always blame others if you know that you are not perfect. Why we wont take responsibility instead of waiting for some one to do it. We always think that India has to develop a lot when we compare with American or European nations. Mr Abdul kalam gave a very good speech about this, which has been roaming around through the mail boxes, thought i would place it at a common place hoping people will take out time atleast to read I don’t know how many of us would implement.. But I am an Optimist !!

BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD

Why is the media here so negative?
Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements?
We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.
I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime.. Why are we so NEGATIVE? Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign TVs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology.

Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her
what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India. For her, you and I will have to build this developed India . You must proclaim: India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed
nation.

Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.

Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours..
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones don’t work, the railways are a joke. The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.

YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?

Now, let’s take a practical approach – Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name – ‘YOURS’. Give him a face – ‘YOURS’.

YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you don’t throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores. YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are.. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road) between 5 PM and 8 PM. YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity! In Singapore you don’t say anything, DO YOU? YOU wouldn’t dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai .. YOU would not dare to go out
without your head covered in Jeddah. YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds (Rs.650) a month to, ’see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.’YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop, ‘Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and so’s son. Take your two bucks and get lost.’ YOU wouldn’t chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New Zealand .. Why don’t YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why don’t YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU. YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw
papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India ?

In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan .. Will the Indian citizen do that here?’ He’s right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility. We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms. We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity. This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public.

When it comes to burning social issues like those related to women, dowry, girl child and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse? ‘It’s the whole system
which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons’ rights to a dowry.’

So who’s going to change the system? What does a system consist of?

Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the government. But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr.Clean to come along & work miracles for us with
a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away. Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England. When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.

Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a great deal of introspection and pricks one’s conscience too. I am echoing J. F. Kennedy’s words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians.

‘ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY’

Lets do what India needs from us.
Thank you,
Dr.. Abdul Kalam

Importance of TeamWork

Teamwork : Co-operative work done by a team.

Effective teamwork certainly does not just happen automatically;
it takes a great deal of hard work and compromises….

There are a number of  factors that must be in place to cohere together as a team and work seamlessly.

1. Good leadership: The team’s leader should possess the skills to create and maintain a positive working environment and motivate and inspire the team members to take a positive approach to work and be highly committed.

2. Clear communication: Team members must be able to articulate their feelings, express plans and goals, share ideas and see each other’s viewpoints.

3. Establishing roles: It is absolutely necessary for team members to understand what their role on the team is, what he/she is responsible for.

4. Conflict Resolution: Conflicts will arise no matter how well a team functions together. The best way to counter conflict is to have structured methods of conflict resolution. Team members should be able to voice their concerns without fear of offending others. Instead of avoiding conflict issues, a hands-on approach that resolves them quickly is much better.

5. Set a good example: The team leader must set a good example for good teamwork to come about. In order to keep team members positive and committed and motivated, the team leader herself/himself needs to exhibit these qualities.

Beautiful quotes on Teamwork

  • There is no “I” in “TEAMWORK”.
  • Teamwork divides the task and doubles the success.
  • None of us is as smart as all of us.
  • Coming together is a beginning.
    Keeping together is progress.
    Working together is success.

Google Wave

  • You all know that Google is the legend of search engines at present, all over the world most of the people wants information to be fetched in few seconds and thats why all go for Google, thats the performance of the fast search engine they are providing, most of us doesn’t know whats the protocol and architecture that Google is using for its search engine.
  • This year Google going to release the secret of thier success that is the architecture of Google search engine.
  • At the same time Google is developing lot of innovative products and releasing them as open source. In this regard Google with their innovative mind they have started developing a new product called Google Wave in the year 2007 .
  • Google Wave is being developed by the Sydney-based Google team, that created Google Maps, used by millions of people worldwide.

  • Lars Rasmussen is a member of Google’s technical staff, based at Sydney office and with his brother Jens is co-founder of the Google Wave effort, They both joined in Google and worked as lead engineers in the team and developed Google Maps, now being used by millions of people around the world.
  • A sneak peek of Google wave was done on 28 May 2009 in Sydney by the Google wave team, Google has not publicly announced a release date and is providing limited access to developers seeking to test their Wave-based applications.
  • Google Wave is a new model for communication and collaboration on the web, Google Wave is an online tool for real-time communication and collaboration.

Do u know email was invented before 40 years ago, till now we all were using the same email format.

Ancient Email machine

  • Google is rethinking about the email and took the all the best features of new communication and innovation of tools like blogger, facebook, twitter and they have decided to make what email would look like if it is made today and thus Google Wave born, Get ready to surf in Google Wave.
  • Google Wave is one copy in which anyone can work on it, we can invite the web friends, office colleagues and can send information live and its visible to all users while typing or editing online.
  • A Wave is shared and any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process , then playback which lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.
  • Any user can see the full video of that particular conversation and, the full history of the conversation, when and who had made the conversation and when who is edited that with full details.
  • The changes made by the users were highlighted in diff colors so that its easy to check out, And while in the conversation any user can add any formatted text and attach documents.
  • Natural language tools is there to Spell check and spelling correction. It works in a Web browser on our PC or on mobile phones, like Apple fs iPhone or Google Android devices.
  • A translator is there in wave called “rosy” it is used for the communication of two persons, if any one person doesn’t know the other persons language then
    it’ll translate live.

Here it is the video for an overview of google wave?

INPUT DIRECTOR

” Input Director”  it means we can control  many systems using single keyboard/mouse. Input Director is open source software, any one can handle this software.

  • We can copy the files from one system and we can paste to another system.
  • We can handle the other systems by moving the cursor

cursor Transition

  • The above picture is example for cursor moving from one pc to another pc.
  • Through the Input Director we can switch many systems.
  • we can shutdown the other systems from master system, and also we can do many functions.
  • By choosing select box we can skip the system.
  • Master System will skip automatically when the other system is switched off.
  • Input Director is high speed software for windows.

Agile Computing… A new era in s/w development

Agile techniques basically are meant to improve quality of engineering or development output…..
There are many specific agile development methods……
Most promote development iterations, teamwork, collaboration, and process adaptability throughout the life-cycle of the project……
Agile methods break tasks into small increments with minimal planning, and do not directly involve long-term planning. Iterations are short time frames (timeboxes) that typically last from one to four weeks. Each iteration involves a team working through a full software development cycle including planning, requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, and acceptance testing when a working product is demonstrated to customers……
Team composition in an agile project is usually cross-functional and self-organizing without consideration for any existing corporate hierarchy or the corporate roles of team members……

Most agile implementations use a routine and formal daily face-to-face communication among team members…

Principles :

Agile methods are a family of development processes, not a single approach to software development.
Agile computing are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value:-

  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools….
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation…..
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation…..
  • Responding to change over following a plan…..

Some of the principles behind the Agile Manifesto(Document) are:

  • Customer satisfaction by rapid, continuous delivery of useful software….
  • Working software is delivered frequently (weeks rather than months)….
  • Working software is the principal measure of progress…..
  • Even late changes in requirements are welcomed…….
  • Close, daily cooperation between business people and developers…..
  • Face-to-face conversation is the best form of communication (co-location)…..
  • Projects are built around motivated individuals, who should be trusted
  • Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design……
  • Simplicity…..
  • Self-organizing teams…..
  • Regular adaptation to changing…… circumstances……

As Optis Corporation already entered in the cloud computing then agile development can help us to capture the spirit of creativity and excitement of s/w development ……

Mobile Lost !

We may loose our mobile / stolen, there are very few chances of getting it back. If its cheaper you may only feel bad and purchase another, if its costly you may go further and lodge a complaint at police station but the chances of getting it back is very less. I have heard many times about IMEI number saying that it would help you in tracking back your mobile but its not that easy. But now using your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) you can easily recover your mobile may be in few hours. This is being implemented by VSNL through GPRS and Internet. It has been successfully implemented in Chennai.

you just need to send an email with all the details mentioned below to cop@vsnl.net

Your name:
Address:
Phone model:
Make:
Last used No.:
E-mail for communication:
Missed date:
IMEI No.: (Get it By dailing *#06# on your mobile)

So, store the IMEI number and the mail id, who knows when you need it !

Christmas Celebration At Optis, 2009

In Optis Christmas is always celebrated in a grand way. This time too it had kept up the tradition. We had a small Christmas Tree which was beautifully decorated and all the gifts were kept under it. Every year we have Secret Santa – Its a small game where a person buys a gift for the other person and the other person has to guess who gave him/her the gift. If the guess is not correct then he/she has to perform whatever the crowd says. And like every time, this time also no one agreed to the guesses even to the correct guesses; you can say we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to showcase their talent. Now this is what normally people see, the party, the enjoyment and the ambiance. This time I wanted to share along with the celebration what goes behind to accomplish all these. So here it goes..

23rd December evening Ravi, Divya, Ashokan, Arun, Umi, Manjunath, Chandru and Myself stayed after the office to decorate Optis for Christmas, 2009. Now you must be thinking who are these people, let me introduce to you one by one. Ravi – BD Manager, Divya – HR, Ashokan and Arun – Trainees, Umi – Office boy, Manjunath and Chandru – Security and Myself – Programmer. All of us worked together to decorate Optis. We had a very tight budget but still managed to pull out lot of things. We got around 100 balloons, ribbons, posters of Santa Claus and many more things. The work was divided among us, like Ashokan and Myself were suppose to blow all the balloons, Ravi and Divya were suppose to tie knots of the balloons, they were also suppose to download some pictures of Santa Claus and bells, Arun was busy with his movie editing (This is a different chapter all together. Will let you guys know later about this later.) Umi along with Manjunath and Chandru were the ones who pasted the ribbons, balloons and posters everywhere around. Both of us, Ashokan and Myself were tired blowing so many balloons. And I guess so were the others. Later some of us had dinner and some went home to have. We left around midnight.

24th December morning, almost all came to decorate Optis and make it look even better. All of us collected money and gave it to Umi to get us those Christmas Caps. After the decoration was completed Optis looked completely different. It was lovely, may be because we all contributed in making it happen in some way or the other. Celebration goes well when everyone works together to celebrate. Now all the decorations were done. But we needed some more cash for the snacks and drinks. Now this was an issue, but Divya, Shyam – System Admin and Umesha Sir – Vice President came to rescue, all of them contributed for snacks and drinks. Everything was ready the gifts, the snacks, the drinks, the people, but where is Santa?

Actually while all these was taking place I was getting dressed up as Santa. Since Sanjith – Software Engineer, had gone to his place to bury his bachelorhood (One more story. This I guess he will be in a better position to tell.) I was asked to take his place. Now getting dressed up as Santa is not so easy as it looks. I had a tough time trying to get the belly. But somehow managed it with the help of Umi. As I came out of the room shouting, “Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas” most of the people started laughing. I was a bit confused whether they are happy to see Santa Claus or am I looking funny. But didn’t bother much and started running here and there carrying a small pouch with some toffees. After all the running and dancing Santa distributed the toffees.

It was time to distribute the gifts and it was done one by one. After all the gifts were distributed we had snacks and drinks. We also had many videos and pictures taken while distributing the gifts. After all these the trainees had shot one movie. We all had a great time watching it. It was really good.

This is how Christmas was celebrated in Optis for the year 2009.

Wish You A Very Happy New Year
